Poor diesel fuel injection leads to heavy black smoke, excessive diesel consumption, loss of tilling power, and loud mechanical 'diesel knock' (clattering metallic noise under load).
Ideal Injector Performance Benchmarks
- Opening Pressure: Exactly 190 to 200 bar (kgf/cm²) for RK-173F and 186F agricultural diesel engines.
- Atomization Quality: The spray should be an ultra-fine conical mist without visible liquid fuel droplets or fuel dribble.
- Chatter Test: When pumped on a manual test bench, the injector should produce a crisp, high-pitched squeak ('chatter') as the needle snaps open and shut cleanly.
Field Symptoms of a Worn Injector
Diesel dripping from the nozzle tip creates unburnt white-gray smoke and dilutes crankcase oil. If the nozzle needle is stuck or the spray holes are eroded, replace the nozzle assembly (P-type nozzle) and install a fresh copper crush washer on the cylinder head seat.
