Common Power Weeder Problems and Solutions

Power weeder problems often interrupt at the busiest season. Here are the most common issues and how to fix them.

1. Engine Won't Start

Causes: Stale fuel, blocked air filter, fouled spark plug, empty fuel tank
Fix: Check fresh petrol (diesel for diesel models). Clean air filter. Replace spark plug (₹100–₹250). For petrol models: correct choke procedure. For 4-stroke: check oil level before starting — won't start on low oil safety lock.

2. Poor Tilling Depth

Causes: Blades worn, engine not at full RPM, soil too hard/dry
Fix: Sharpen or replace rotary blades. Ensure full throttle operation. Pre-wet hard soil before tilling. Set tilling depth adjustment to correct setting.

3. Weeder Moving Sideways / Won't Go Straight

Causes: Uneven blade wear, uneven tyre pressure, operator technique
Fix: Check all blades are equal wear — replace worn set. Check tyre pressure evenly. Walk in straight line following previous pass.

4. Blades Clogging with Wet Soil/Grass

Causes: Wet soil conditions, too much grass cover, wrong blade type
Fix: Clear blade clog after every 15–20 minutes in wet conditions. Use straight blades (not L-shaped) in wet paddy soil. Slow forward speed to allow better soil throw.

5. Excessive Vibration

Causes: Missing or broken blade, bent blade, loose blade bolts
Fix: Stop immediately — broken blade is dangerous. Replace missing or broken blades. Tighten all blade bolts to correct torque. Always run complete blade set.

6. Drive Belt Slipping (Belt-Drive Models)

Causes: Worn belt, improper belt tension, oil on belt
Fix: Adjust belt tension (should deflect 10–15mm). Replace glazed or cracked belt. Clean oil spill from belt and pulley.

7. Engine Overheating

Causes: Low oil (4-stroke), blocked cooling fins, continuous operation over 2 hours
Fix: Check oil before every use. Clean cooling fins with brush after every 10 hours. Rest engine 20 min after 2 hours of tilling.
